Can I Safely Migrate the Archive Log Directory?
Question
I want to migrate the archive log directory to a new path. Does Fivetran read all logs in the folder during each sync, and should I anticipate any missing data?
Environment
Connector: High-Volume Agent SAP ECC on Oracle with NetWeaver
Answer
Yes, you can safely migrate the archive log directory. Fivetran doesn't re-read all archive logs in the folder during every sync. Instead, we track the archive log file name and the System Change Number (SCN) subsequence within each log file. This allows us to resume syncs from where we left off during the last sync.
You shouldn't anticipate missing data when you migrate to a new archive log directory. However, we recommend migrating only archive logs from the past few hours and ensuring there are no uncommitted, long-running transactions.
