Why Does Fivetran Send RFC_PING Calls to Our SAP Server?
Question
Why does Fivetran send RFC_PING calls to our SAP system server?
Environment
Connector: High-Volume Agent SAP ECC on Oracle with NetWeaver
Answer
When we run queries, we create a new connection to the SAP system. As part of the built-in SAP connection handshake, SAP automatically issues an RFC_PING to verify that the connection is valid before processing requests.
These pings are expected behavior and part of the standard SAP connection validation workflow. They are lightweight, have negligible performance impact, and help ensure a stable, reliable integration between Fivetran and your SAP system.
