Error: Azure Active Directory Only Authentication Is Enabled

Issue

When adding a connection, setup tests fail with the following error:

Login failed for user 'fivetran'. Reason: Azure Active Directory only authentication is enabled. Please contact your system administrator.

Environment

• Connector: Azure SQL Database
• Authentication method: Username and password

Resolution

To resolve this issue, disable Microsoft Entra-only authentication in the Azure portal.

Cause

This issue occurs when you try to authenticate your connection using a username and password, but Microsoft Entra-only authentication is enabled on your database.
