Can I use Azure Kubernetes Service Automatic for Hybrid Deployment?

Answer

Yes, you can use Azure Kubernetes with the Automatic tier in Hybrid Deployment. However, we recommend using the Standard tier instead, as it offers greater flexibility for configuring Hybrid Deployment.

If your pipeline processing jobs run infrequently, such as every six hours or daily, the Automatic tier might work well, since node scaling will have minimal impact on job scheduling. However, we do not recommend using the Automatic tier for pipelines that run frequently (for example, every minute or every five minutes), because new nodes may not be ready before the next scheduled job starts. Node provisioning during scaling can sometimes take up to two minutes.

If you use the Automatic tier, make sure to install Hybrid Deployment Helm chart v0.16.0 or above. These versions adds support for the Kubernetes PodDisruptionBudget policy, ensuring the Hybrid Deployment Agent pod is not disrupted during node scaling. The policy also ensures that at least one node always remains available to support the Hybrid Deployment Agent.
