Bring Your Own Azure Bucket
After creating an Azure Blob Storage Container, you may enter the following information in the Activation Source creation wizard:
- Storage Account Name
- Storage Container Name
- SAS token
Initial setup
1. Create an Azure Blob Storage Container
- Log into MSFT Azure Portal
- Navigate to Storage accounts. Create one if you don't have one already. You can use the default settings for the storage account. Make a note of the storage account name.
- From the Azure Storage Account, navigate to Data storage > Containers
- Create a new container. There are no specific settings that need to be configured when creating a new container. Make a note of the container name.
2. Generate an Azure SAS Token
- When that new container is created, open the container's drop-down menu and select Generate SAS
- Create an SAS Token
- Ensure the token has enough permissions: Read, Add, Create, Write, Delete, List
- Extend Expiry Date/Time into the future
- If desired, restrict the token to the IP addresses listed in the right-hand side of the Activation Source creation wizard
- Copy and save the SAS Token somewhere safe
3. Finish up
Provide the storage account name, storage container name, and SAS token to the Activation Source creation wizard. Press "Connect" to validate the connection. The wizard will continue only if the provided bucket is configured correctly.
Ongoing maintenance
You don't need to take further action until the SAS token approaches its expiration date. Before it expires, generate a new token and update the Activation Source to avoid sync failures. Fivetran will automatically create and remove files as needed.
We strongly recommend that once set up, you do not modify the bucket or any of the keys it contains in any way. Adding, removing, modifying, or renaming data in your Activations bucket is not supported and will likely cause activation syncs to fail. In addition, the Activations bucket should not be simultaneously employed for any other purposes.
If you need to rename your bucket or service account, please contact Fivetran Support.
