Quickstart Management
Learn how to add, view, edit, upgrade, and delete Quickstart data models in the Fivetran dashboard.
Add Quickstart transformation
You can add a Quickstart data model after you have created a connection that supports the model and that connection has passed its setup tests.
Do either of the following:
- In your Fivetran dashboard, click Transformations in the left navigation column.
- On the Transformations tab of the connection details page, click Add Quickstart Transformation. In that case, the Quickstart transformation uses the default schema and all output data models, and you skip the following steps in this section.
Your Transformations page varies slightly based on whether or not you have set up any transformations and created connection in this destination:
- If you don't have any transformations and connections:
- Click the Get Started button.
- Under Quickstart data models, click Install data models.
- If you have not yet set up any transformations but have set up connections using connectors that support Quickstart data models, select the connections you want to set up the Quickstart transformations for, and click Add & run packages beside Quickstart.
- If you have set up transformations:
- Click Add Transformation.
- Select the destination where you want to add the Quickstart transformation.
- Add data models beside Quickstart.
- If you don't have any transformations and connections:
Select the Quickstart package type:
- Single source package - Selecting this option models each connection individually.
- Multi source - Selecting this option uses multi-source packages to model and merge data from connections of similar types supported by the package.
Select the connections you want to model by checking their boxes.
If you have not yet created a connection in your destination, see the Add Quickstart transformations to destination without existing connections section.
The Model count displays the total number of output and intermediate models used in a transformation and it automatically populates based on the source type.
To learn more about the added output models, click View info beside the relevant model.
(Optional) If you want to place the transformed data to a custom schema, check the Use a custom schema box and enter the name of the Custom schema.
Select the schedule. You have the following scheduling options:
Integrated - Fivetran runs your transformation after each upstream connection finishes syncing and each upstream transformation finishes running. For transformations for dbt Core, this schedule type is not available until you Select trigger connections on the Connections tab or Select trigger jobs on the Jobs tab, respectively. To add a connection or a job, click + Add connection or + Add job, respectively. Click Remove to remove a selected connection or job.
For Quickstart transformations, when you add a transformation, the created connection is selected as a trigger connection by default. Later, you can add, edit, or remove trigger connections and transformations as needed.
Run Frequency (also known as Custom scheduling) - Custom scheduling allows you to select particular days of the week to run your transformation, a run frequency within a day, and when the run frequency is set to 24 hours, a particular run time for your transformation.
Available run intervals are as follows:
- 1 min
- 5 min
- 15 min
- 30 min
- 1 hour
- 2 hours
- 3 hours
- 6 hours
- 8 hours
- 12 hours
- 24 hours
When you set a 24-hour run interval, you can also select a particular time to run your transformation at.
If you opt to use Smart Syncing, note that the Custom schedule with Smart Syncing enabled is not available for transformations for dbt Core until you Select trigger connections on the Connections tab or Select trigger jobs on the Jobs tab, respectively.
Cron - Fivetran will run your transformation based on the specified cron schedule. You can define and use multiple cron schedules to flexibly execute your transformations. This scheduling type provides more flexibility than Custom scheduling.
Transformations scheduled with cron run in your destination's default time zone. To check your destination's time zone, go to the associated Destination Connection Details page in your dashboard.
Click Save. If you are bulk-creating single-source data models, they are added as individual models in your transformation list. If you are creating a multi-source data model, it is displayed as a single data model. The Connections columns in that case displays the number of associated connections with up to three connection logos followed by an integer. For example, if your data model has 15 connections associated with it, the three logos are followed by '(+12)'.
Add Quickstart transformations to destination without existing connections
If you have not yet created a connection in your destination, follow these steps to add a Quickstart transformation:
- Once you have selected the package type as described in the Add Quickstart Transformation section, click Add new connection. You will be redirected to the connection setup form.
- Set up the connection, and, when the connection tests have passed, click Continue.
- (Optional) Click Keep this Quickstart data model package running after the free use period.
- Click Continue.
- You have the following options:
Click Start syncing all my data now and then click Start initial sync to start the initial sync with the full schema selected. The initial sync starts. The Quickstart transformation is created automatically using the default Transformation name, Modeled data schema name, Integrated schedule, and the created connection selected as a trigger connection. The transformation runs after the initial sync is complete.
If you want to select the tables and columns you want to sync:
i. Click I need to customize data before syncing.
ii. Click Fetch schema.
iii. Allow temporary cache by checking the consent checkbox.
iv. Click Fetch schema.
v. Once the schema is fetched, select the tables and columns you want to sync
vi. Configure both the Data Blocking and Column Hashing and the Schema Change Handling settings.
vii. Click Continue.
viii. (Optional) Click Keep this Quickstart data model package running after the free use period.
ix. Click Continue.
x. Click Start syncing my customized data now and then click Start initial sync to start the initial sync with the customized schema selected. The initial sync starts. The Quickstart transformation is created automatically using the default Transformation name, Modeled data schema name, Integrated schedule, and the created connection selected as a trigger connection. The transformation runs after the initial sync is complete.

Review upcoming Quickstart schema changes
- Do to either of the following:
- In the transformation list, click the three dots on the right side of the relevant Quickstart transformation
- On the Transformations tab of the connection details page, click the three dots on the right side of the relevant Quickstart transformation
- Click Review update.
A pop-up window appears with a brief description of the schema changes and a list of the output models that are affected.
Delete a Quickstart data model
When you delete all output models in a Quickstart package, that package is completely removed from your dashboard, and you can no longer view its run history. If you want to schedule this transformation later, you must add a new Quickstart transformation. The new transformation will not include run history from the original model.
- Do to either of the following:
- In the transformation list, click the three dots on the right side of the relevant Quickstart transformation
- On the Transformations tab of the connection details page, click the three dots on the right side of the relevant Quickstart transformation
- Click Remove transformation.
- A pop-up window appears with a warning about deleting your data model. Read it, then click Remove.
