Quickstart Management
Learn how to add, view, edit, upgrade, and delete Quickstart data models in the Fivetran dashboard.
Add Quickstart transformation
When you set up a connection using a connector that supports Quickstart data models and your destination supports Quickstart transformations, Fivetran automatically prompts you to configure a Quickstart transformation after the connection tests pass. You can also add a Quickstart transformation manually from the Transformations page at any time.
Do either of the following:
- On the Transformations page, click Add data models next to Quickstart.
- On the Transformations tab of the connection details page, click Add Quickstart Transformation.
Select the connection you want to model, or click Add new connection if you have not yet created one:
- Follow the on-screen prompts to set up the connection.
- (For some connectors) Complete any connector-specific intermediate steps that appear during setup.
- Once the connection tests pass, the Quickstart confirmation step appears automatically.
Review the confirmation page. The appearance varies based on the connector type:
- Connectors that support multi-source packages (such as Ad Reporting): Choose one of the following options. In both cases, a multi-source transformation is created — a single-source package is not available for these connector types.
- Join data with other sources: Merge this connection's data into an existing multi-source transformation.
- Keep modeled data separate: Create a new multi-source transformation for this connection. You can merge it with other sources later.
- Other connectors: Review the pre-assigned transformation details, then toggle Keep transformation running after the free trial ends if needed, and click Add Quickstart data model.
- Connectors that support multi-source packages (such as Ad Reporting): Choose one of the following options. In both cases, a multi-source transformation is created — a single-source package is not available for these connector types.
In both cases, the transformation name and modeled data schema are assigned automatically and cannot be changed at this step. The schedule defaults to Integrated. To change settings after creation, see View and edit Quickstart transformation.
View and edit Quickstart transformation
For an overview of all transformations, refer to our View Transformations documentation page.
To edit a Quickstart transformation's settings, click the relevant transformation in the transformation list, then open the Settings or Schedule tab as needed.
Change the schedule
Open the Schedule tab. The following scheduling options are available:
Integrated - Fivetran runs your transformation after each upstream connection finishes syncing and each upstream transformation finishes running. The created connection is selected as a trigger connection by default. Later, you can add, edit, or remove trigger connections as needed.
Run Frequency (also known as Custom scheduling) - Allows you to select particular days of the week to run your transformation, a run frequency within a day, and, when the run frequency is set to 24 hours, a particular run time.
Available run intervals are as follows:
- 1 min
- 5 min
- 15 min
- 30 min
- 1 hour
- 2 hours
- 3 hours
- 6 hours
- 8 hours
- 12 hours
- 24 hours
If you opt to use Smart Syncing, note that the Custom schedule with Smart Syncing enabled requires trigger connections to be configured on the Schedule tab. The created connection is selected as a trigger connection by default. Later, you can add, edit, or remove trigger connections as needed.
Cron - We run your transformation based on the specified cron schedule. You can define and use multiple cron schedules for more flexibility than Custom scheduling.
Transformations scheduled with cron run in your destination's default time zone. To check your destination's time zone, go to the associated Destination Connection Details page in your dashboard.
Edit schema names
On the Settings tab, click Edit schema name to update the intermediate and staging schema or output schema. Changes take effect on the next run.
Configure package variables
Some packages expose configurable variables such as date ranges, boolean flags, or custom values. Edit these in the Variables section of the Settings tab and click Save.
Review upcoming Quickstart schema changes
- Do to either of the following:
- In the transformation list, click the three dots on the right side of the relevant Quickstart transformation
- On the Transformations tab of the connection details page, click the three dots on the right side of the relevant Quickstart transformation
- Click Review update.
A pop-up window appears with a brief description of the schema changes and a list of the output models that are affected.
Delete a Quickstart data model
When you delete all output models in a Quickstart package, that package is completely removed from your dashboard, and you can no longer view its run history. If you want to schedule this transformation later, you must add a new Quickstart transformation. The new transformation will not include run history from the original model.
- Do to either of the following:
- In the transformation list, click the three dots on the right side of the relevant Quickstart transformation
- On the Transformations tab of the connection details page, click the three dots on the right side of the relevant Quickstart transformation
- Click Remove transformation.
- A pop-up window appears with a warning about deleting your data model. Read it, then click Remove.
