Microsoft Power BI Setup Guide Lite Private Preview
Follow our setup guide to connect Microsoft Power BI to Fivetran.
Prerequisites
To connect Microsoft Power BI to Fivetran, you need an Azure Active Directory account with the following:
- Tenant in Microsoft entra ID
- Power BI pro account
Setup instructions
Register application and add permissions
Log in to your Azure portal.
Select App registrations.
Click New registration.
Enter a Name for your application.
Select Supported account types.
Click Register and make a note of the Application (client) ID and Directory (tenant) ID. You will need it to configure Fivetran.
On the app navigation menu, click API Permissions.
Click Add a permission, and select Power BI Service.
In the What type of permissions does your application require? check box, select Delegated permissions.
Click Application permissions.
Scroll down and select the following required permissions:
- Capacity.Read.All
- Dashboard.Read.All
- Dataflow.Read.All
- Dataset.Read.All
- Gateway.Read.All
- Pipeline.Read.All
- Report.Read.All
- User.Read.All
- Tenant.Read.All
Click Add permissions.
Create client secret
Select the application you registered.
Click Certificates & secrets > Client secrets > + New client secret.
In the Description, enter a name for the client secret.
In the Expires drop-down menu, select an expiry period for the client secret.
Click Add.
Make a note of the client secret. You will need it to configure Fivetran.
Finish Fivetran configuration
- In the connector setup form, enter the Destination schema name of your choice.
- Enter the Tenant ID and Client ID you registered.
- Enter the Client secret you created.
- (Hybrid Deployment only) If your destination is configured for Hybrid Deployment, the Hybrid Deployment Agent associated with your destination is pre-selected in the Select an existing agent drop-down menu. To use a different agent, select the agent of your choice, and then select the same agent for your destination.
- Click Save & Test. Fivetran will take it from here and sync your Microsoft Power BI data.
