Why Does a User Appear as Both SUBSCRIBED
and SUPPRESSED
in My Destination?
Question
A user appears as SUBSCRIBED
in the subscriptions_email_marketing_consent
column of the PERSON
table. However, the same user appears as SUPPRESSED
in the GLOBAL_EXCLUSION
table. How can a user be subscribed and suppressed at the same time?
Environment
Connector: Klaviyo
Answer
The subscriptions_email_marketing_consent
column of the PERSON
table reflects a user's opt-in status. A SUBSCRIBED
status means the user has consented to receive marketing emails.
However, the GLOBAL_EXCLUSION
table tracks suppression status. A user appears here if Klaviyo has flagged the user as ineligible to receive marketing emails due to issues like manual suppression, spam complaints, hard bounces, or unsubscribing through other channels.
Therefore, a user reflecting both statuses in your destination initially consented to marketing emails, but is suppressed and won't receive them. For more information, see Klaviyo's documentation on suppressed profiles.
